About Us

The first coins were made approximately 2,700 years ago, and since these first coins those looking back historically have been fascinated with the story and history coins reveal.

Coins have always been used to send a message, highlighting a strong animal, giving homage to a “god”, driving home a political point as well as providing a means of commerce.

Coins are mentioned in the Bible, starting with gold and silver coins of King Darius I, commencing in 522 BC to those used in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, minted by Pontius Pilate or the famous Widows Mite.

These pieces of gold, silver, bronze and copper tell a story, provide insights into the commerce and economy of the times, provide and understanding of leaders and even documenting events, such as the emergence of the Star of Bethlehem.

In providing this information I consider three major factors, information contained in the Bible, information documented by Numismatics (coin experts) and historical records. In some situations experts do not always agree on each detail, on this site I will present what I believe to be the most valid factual and theoretical information and provide footnotes for additional research.

New information is consistently adding to our knowledge base and what was for years was generally accepted as fact may be overturned by new discovery. For example, most historical experts believe King Herod the Great completed the Jewish Temple, however a coin was found under the foundation of one of the walls minted after Herod’s death which leads to a strong perspective that the temple was completed after his death rather than during his lifetime.

Join me as we explore the stories these coins share and the deeper learning we will all gain as we can continue our study.
